The challenge is…

….to commit to live for a year on $15,000 or less as a way to:

  • live at an environmentally sustainable level of consumption.
  • free up time for life-giving activities and not have so much of one’s life dominated by earning money.
  • explore a lifestyle rooted in simplicity, community, solidarity, and compassion.
  • diminish resources you give to institutions driving environmental destruction, war and human exploitation.
  • explore living in a way that is consistent with your values.

The reality is most of us slip into lifestyles without really thinking if they match our values – compassion for others; family; care of the environment, social justice, peace, faith, etc.  We often live as our family has lived, how those around us live, or are influenced by our culture of consumption.

This site offers some suggestions and rationales for choosing this path – for however long one chooses to follow it.
